The Hartstone team on site
Bennettsbridge · 2009
The Story

Started by three brothers, still run by them.

Hartstone began on a frost-cold morning in February 2009, on the gable end of a stone cottage in Bennettsbridge that was falling sideways. Mick, Dave and Conor had been on the tools since their teens — between them, sixty-odd years of brick, block and timber across half a dozen firms.

We were tired of the way the trade ran: crews swapped between sites mid-job, prices that wandered, certs that took months. So we set up our own yard, hired the lads we'd worked alongside for years, and made a rule we still keep: the same crew that breaks ground hands you the keys.

Sixteen years later, we're a team of eighteen. We've built one hundred and forty-plus projects across Kilkenny, Carlow, Wexford and Tipperary. We've never gone to court with a client, and we're not planning to start.

What We Stand For

Four rules we don't break.

These aren't a marketing exercise. They're how we decide which jobs to take, which lads to hire, and how we run a site when nobody's watching.

01 / Honesty
No Hidden Costs

A fixed-price contract before any work begins. If we miss something on the quote, that's our problem to absorb — not yours to pay for. Variations are written down, priced up, and signed off before the work happens.

02 / Pride
Standing Over The Work

If we wouldn't be happy living in the room we just built, we don't hand it over. Every project comes with a twelve-month aftercare warranty and a number you can ring on a Sunday — and we'll answer.

03 / Respect
Your House, Your Rules

Boots off in lived-in homes. Dust sheets on every door. The radio is yours, the kettle is ours, and the toilet bowl gets cleaned at the end of every day. The site is your home — we're guests in it.

04 / Trade
Local & Family-Run

Eighteen people on the books, all within a thirty-kilometre radius. We hire apprentices every year, we pay the going rate, and we'd rather turn down a job than break the team apart to take it.

The Crew

The people on your site.

No middlemen, no project managers you've never met. The lead on your build will be one of these three — and the same crew with them, start to finish.
